Ok, so its come down thru the channels that every unit in the state will have a Family Support Group at all times, not just when the unit gets activated. Our detachment is the first in Ron's unit to have the FSG and we are very active. We are planning a Family Day for the unit next month but we have to cover the expenses. So we raised $332 during one of the drills just by mentioning the fact that we need to raise money for the food. The soldiers just started pulling out money.
Then we decided to do a Yard sale/bake sale/car wash, which we had yesterday. Yea I know, end of month, we're not gonna do that good, blah blah blah. Well we started setting up about 6, most of us got there late, was supposed to be 5. We had ppl showing up at 6:45, even tho we had it posted to start at 7. My MIL made us 2 cakes and the red velvet went for $15!! And by one of the ladies on the FSG committee too! She didnt even let us get it on the table, she goes "Thats mine, put it in my truck" LOL We had 3 of us who brought a bunch of stuff (FSG committee members), a few of the soldiers drop some stuff off and a couple of soldiers, who weren't related to us FSG members who showed up and helped most of the morning. Anyway, we stayed out there till noon, washed about 12 cars and had tons of ppl come. We ended up raising $541.70!!! Add that to what we already had and we are gonna have an awesome Family Day!! Im sunburnt, I was exausted yesterday, took a two hour nap at 5pm, and Im still beat today but I am so proud of everyone!! We even had some ppl who, when they realized we were doing a fundraiser for the unit who would go "well, just keep the change" or "Id just like to make a donation" That just goes to show how much ppl appreciate our soldiers, regardless of what the media says!
We're now planning a Turkey Shoot (no, you dont shoot turkey's, you shoot targets to win turkeys), maybe a haunted house, a Chirstmas party (maybe a ball) and a bunch of other stuff. Its rather cool to be involved in something like this. Anyway, just wanted to share.
