I am soooooooooooooo happy right now!!!! Today's mail brought the very first letter from my son, Zach!!!
Its dated last Friday.
He starts off with how Reception "is the ultimate meaning of hurry up and wait."
He mentions how they had to sit at MEPS down at Fort Dix all that first day he was picked up here at home(last Tuesday-the 24'th)-then spent the night at a hotel on Ft. Dix.
He then goes through the details of how he was delayed that next day because of the hydraulic leak on the plane out of Philly. Had to go back to the hotel, wake up call at 0400, then sat at MEPS on Ft. Dix again for 3 hours, then back to Philly airport. They didn't wind up even getting to Ft. Benning till sometime between 7 and 9 pm Thursday night because they sat for HOURS in the Atlanta airport till someone finally picked them up!
But at least he didn't get delayed going through reception!!
He said he "can't wait to get outta here (Reception) and get downrange.
Said its only been a few days and he misses home.
The next page is dated Sunday night.
he said he couldn't mail it yet becuase he had no return addy.
He said they already went to the PX to buy what they need and that he got his ACU's.
He writes they are shipping to their Units on Thursday(TODAY!!)
He then asks for me to send him everyone's mailing addys-but tells me I can't mail anything out yet till I get the letter from the Commander, or hear from him first because the return addy on the envie was just a temp addy from Reception. *ugh* lol
He says they are in what's called catagory: '5 Black' meaning due to the extreme heat and humidity (90+ degrees) they have to modify their uniforms for comfort. He says the humidity is real bad and the gnats are even worse. awww...my poor baby... lol
He then reminds me that as soon as I get his official mailing addy-to give it to his girlfriend, Des RIGHT AWAY! lol APPARANTLY, HER letter is almost 6 pages long already!! *harumph!* lmao (ah, young love lol)
The he says that mail is going out in a few but wanted to write and let us know that he's ok. he says, "I Love You and I'm sure it'll go quick. Miss you guys. Send my love to everyone. Love, Zach xoxoxo"
He adds a p.s. that says:
"2 Quotes I've been going by:
1. Mind over matter-if it don't mind...it don't matter.
2. Death is not death if you refuse it, it is, if you accept it."
wow...already he's getting philosophical on me!! Yea!! lol Oh he also mentions that he was given a pocket Testament by someone at MEPS and he's been reading it!! Praise Jesus!!!! I'm a Christian, but he's never been too 'into religion' BUT, the morning of the day he left, he had come in and told me, that when he woke up, he just kept looking at the silver cross around his neck that we got him, as a going-away pressie (He requested one and I was so happy for that too!!!) and he said that for the first time, in a long time that he could remember...that he prayed that morning.
Oh God sure does answer prayers!!!
Oh I am so happy and relieved to have heard from my son finally!!! I cried tears of joy when I saw the envie in the pile of mail...then I cried reading it and after reading it becaus eit all came back and hit me again.
I can just imagine what today is going like...lol...that first day of meeting your DS!!! lol They gonna sleep real well tonight...wait, prolly not!! lol
*hugs*
